Heart of the Mystic: A Day of Dances for the Spiritual Heart
Saturday 10th May
We may feel that the brain has become too dominant in our of lives these days. Perhaps we are so used to doing things that we seldom remember our inner need to simply be. Just being may seem like doing nothing at all and therefore is not worth spending time or energy on. But as human beings rather than human doings we can benefit greatly from giving more space for what we all know deep down are the spiritual needs and capacities of our hearts.
This workshop is an opportunity for you to explore the sacred space of your own heart sphere and to gain an increased capacity for life in the heart along with a greater sense of connection to the hearts of others. In this way we may reach to the very depths of our being and beyond that we may even expand the energy of our hearts so that we can encompass the whole universe.
Mystics focus on the heart because they know it is the centre of the being that controls the mind and all its vehicles, including the physical body. All mysteries belong to the heart yet the heart knows no mysteries. This is because the heart is the seat of true understanding. Bright but hidden, the Real Self dwells in the heart.
The emphasis of the dances, chants and other practices shared during this day will be for us to feel everything as coming from and belonging to the heart, so that sensation, feeling and love may engage with every experience. There will be heart meditations, mantra and rhythmic movement to emphasise the heart space and the rhythms of the heart. It is open to all who are ready and willing to open the doors of their heart.
It is not necessary to have had experience of this form of spiritual chant and dance – sometimes called Dances of Universal Peace. The dances are for those who have a sense of inner adventure towards engaging with body, heart and mind in a new way. The dances are simple and accessible as well as being profound and deep. Mostly these practices are danced and sung as we move together in a circle. The sacred chants are from various spiritual traditions. The dances originated in the USA through the inspiration of Samuel L. Lewis and they have grown and spread to many other countries over the years.
Additionally during this workshop there will be short periods of sitting together in the silence to help us integrate and embody the effects of the practices.
